Ladies and Gentlemen, we proudly present the one and only King of the Banjo, Eddie Peabody!
www.EddiePeabody.com is a celebration of Eddie's musical life and it's purpose is to help perpetuate and preserve the memory of him. His career spanned five decades and his wonderful musical legacy is still enjoyed today. Eddie's career started in 1920's Vaudeville where he quickly established himself as one the America's top entertainers. He recorded extensively and by the 1930's had become a radio star. Unlike most of his contemporaries he carried on his successful career through-out the 1940's and continued for the rest of his life.
Just before his European tour of 1938 Eddie was commissioned as a US Naval Officer at the special request of President F.D. Roosevelt and during the trip did some espionage work collecting evidence of the German military build up. During the war years he did USO shows for thousands of servicemen. From the 1950's onwards he was working on TV, playing shows and supper-clubs all over the USA and he was appearing on stage right up until his passing in 1970.
Eddie was the most famous banjo player of his time, a great entertainer and an inspiration to many Plectrum Banjo players the world over, both then and now. You'll find plenty of information here, lots of links, videos and audio and I will add more as it becomes available. If you can add to this collection please share with us, I am interested in collecting any memorabilia of Eddie. If you have recollections or stories about Eddie please take a few moments to jot them down in the "Memories" link.
